Nagaland is one of the smallest states in north east India. Though
agriculture is the primary occupation with more than 90 percent of the population engaged
in it, the state still imports bulk of its food supplies from neighbouring
states.
The Government of Nagaland in 2006 invited
us to work with the Department of Women Development to empower women and
small and marginalised women farmers through livelihood options.
Our work here is with the Self-Help
Groups (SHGs) training them in organic farming practices
(predominantly horticultural), getting their products markets
and also creating more value adds to the produce such as
processing and preservation that can increase their demand
nationally and internationally as well.
