Naandi’s Agriculture Almanac: Re-aligning Agriculture with Nature’s Rhythms

An Almanac hangs in the household of every farmer who works with us. Symbols are clear and intuitive, with instructions on what daily agricultural activities are advised depending on lunar and planetary phases. The Almanac's instructive texts are translated for everyone: in English, Hindi, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Kannada.

For centuries, we have been astounded by the physical and biological world we inhabit and how it exists within a delicate, almost perfect, balance of forces. The Earth sits at a precise distance from the Sun that makes our atmosphere neither too hot nor too cold, allowing water to remain liquid and marine and land-based… Continue reading Naandi’s Agriculture Almanac: Re-aligning Agriculture with Nature’s Rhythms

Where Fear ends and the Future Begins: Naandi’s Job Factory

Pragya Sahu from Chhattisgarh maps out the key domains of her life that affect her employability. In this self-assessment exercise, part of the Employability and Life-Skills course, she not only names these domains—intellect, education and career, health, family and support system, finances, and social responsibility—but also reflects on how balanced or strained each area feels to her.

In today’s rapidly shifting job market, technical knowledge and a perfect resume are no longer enough to secure a young person’s future. Employers still seek qualified individuals with field-specific experience, of course, but they look for something more: adaptability, confidence, effective communication, a results-oriented work ethic, creative problem-solving, and the ability to work independently as well as… Continue reading Where Fear ends and the Future Begins: Naandi’s Job Factory

Part 1 – An Ode to Araku’s Farmers Cooperative: a Blueprint for a Better World

A couple receives hands-on training in their own coffee plot, mastering the skill of pruning their coffee bushes. Such intimate, in-field sessions 20 years ago marked the start of the Farmer Field School programme and laid the groundwork for the hundreds of thousands of training sessions that have, since the early 2000s, delivered crucial coffee cultivation expertise directly to Araku’s tribal farmers.

With the United Nations declaring 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives, it prompts us to reflect on what cooperation truly means in practice. For many of those at Naandi who have worked directly on or supported agriculture-based livelihoods projects for smallholder farmers in Araku Valley, this reflection feels quite close and personal. This is… Continue reading Part 1 – An Ode to Araku’s Farmers Cooperative: a Blueprint for a Better World

The Nanhi Kali Kit: An Affirmation of Her Worth and Dignity

The Kit distribution ceremony at Nanhi Kali’s Jambusar location in Gujarat brings together the local team, school representatives, and even some parents. Each girl receives her kit like an award—acknowledging and celebrating her place in the programme.

Each year, as new girls join the nationwide community of 171,000 girls under the wings of Project Nanhi Kali, drawstring bags in Nanhi Kali’s unmistakable canary-yellow soon arrive at their sides. Each bag and the six items packed inside it make up what we call a Nanhi Kali Kit: a carefully chosen set of schooling,… Continue reading The Nanhi Kali Kit: An Affirmation of Her Worth and Dignity
